Smiley Face Questions
What’s the difference between ☻ and 😊?
☻ is U+263B BLACK SMILING FACE, a Unicode symbol usually shown as a text glyph. 😊 is an emoji usually shown in color. Neither is part of ASCII, and both need font support.
How do I copy a smiley face?
Tap or click a face in the grid. Once “Copied” appears, paste with Ctrl+V on Windows or Cmd+V on Mac. On a phone, touch and hold a text field and choose Paste.
Why does a smiley show as an empty box □?
The app or device may lack a font for that character. An operating system or app update may help. Simple ASCII faces such as :) are a useful alternative.
What does the upside-down smiley face mean?
🙃 often conveys irony, sarcasm, awkwardness or a playful “everything is fine.” Its meaning depends on the conversation.
Are ツ and ㋡ actually smiley faces?
ツ is the Japanese katakana letter tu, and ㋡ is its circled form. People also use their shapes as smiles; they are letters, rather than dedicated emoji.
